The Blacksmiths lies at the foot of the beautiful South Downs. Originally a Blacksmiths in all its glory, adjacent to a forge. it's doors as a public house have been open for well over 100 years hosting weary travellers or villagers with food, drinks and hospitality whilst being at the heart of the local community. We have updated the bar and restaurant area. Our interior style is a mix of 'French farmhouse' and Scandinavian simplicity. paired with friendly casual service where intimate dinner for two, a celebration or a group of friends meeting over supper can be enjoyed.
Our food philosophy is simple - our menu is small but always fresh. We source as much produce locally and use the seasons as our guide to determine what dishes we serve.
There are always great meat, fish and vegetarian options available with daily specials on the board. It's no trouble to change ingredients to accommodate dietary requirements and even better if you let us know in advance.
On Sunday we serve a roast lunch besides an a la carte menu - a vegetarian nut roast is available on request. - (If you're making a reservation and would like a veggie roast please inform us and we'll make sure you leave happy.)
We recommend reservations being made as our restaurant is small and beautiful with a limited number of seats and is usually busy, especially during the weekends.
Our kitchen is small - we can sit one table of 8 guests per lunch/dinner service with an a la carte menu. Larger groups are welcome although we will be requesting a pre-order as this enables our team to give you the best time. (Groups with pre orders will be requested to confirm reservation with a credit card number. Cancellation must be made up to 48 hours prior to reservation.
For guests staying with us we offer a range of breakfast dishes.
Obviously full English is on the menu amongst smoked salmon and scrambled eggs, cereals, juices, yogurt, coffee, various teas and soy/nut milk options.
Often we have seasonal berries and fruits and a few surprises - it has been known for us to sing and dance in the morning! However, we will always endeavour to set you up for the day in the best possible way so the only thing you need to do is tell us how you like your eggs.
We serve a smaller - lighter lunchtime menu featuring light bites, sandwiches, salads, pie of the day, burger of the day plus daily specials on the black board.
WE LOVE DOGS.
Dogs are welcome in the bar and restaurant although at busy times we may ask guests with their gorgeous pooches to be seated at the bar tables.
Wine and Beer
We created a great wine list, with all wines sourced from Europe. There are 7 wines by the glass - a few favourites plus some interesting and different options for you to discover. We have British and international bubbles in stock should you have a celebration or feel like spoiling yourself.
We love Beer
We pride ourselves on great cask British beer. There are usually two or three to choose from plus international lagers and craft beer on tap.
